Phish New Year’s Run Announced

As reported on Phish.com:

At the end of December, Phish returns to the road for a five-show Holiday/NYE Run, beginning with two nights in Worcester and ending with three nights at Madison Square Garden in New York. Not only will the New York City run include a three-set New Year’s Eve show, but for the first time in Phish History, the band will perform on January 1st.

PHISH NEW YEAR’S RUN 2010-2011

12/27 DCU Center, Worcester, MA
12/28 DCU Center, Worcester, MA
12/30 Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
12/31 Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
01/01 Madison Square Garden, New York, NY

A limited number of tickets for all five shows are available directly through Phish Tickets’ online ticketing system at http://phish.portals.musictoday.com/. The ticket request period is currently underway and will end Saturday, October 2nd at Noon EST. Tickets will go on sale to the public on Saturday, October 9th at Noon EST (for MSG) and Sunday, October 10th at 10:00am EST (for Worcester).

As with Phish’s Fall Tour, included in the ticket price for each specific date, is a free MP3 download of the entire show (a fully mixed soundboard recording), redeemable at LivePhish.com, often within an hour of the band stepping off stage.

For complete ticketing information, please click here.

A five night run in the Northeast to not only close out one year but to open up another! If I’m not mistaken, aside from the 12/31/99 Big Cypress show’s 2nd set (that technically started on Jan 1), which lasted 8 hours (from midnite until 8am), I don’t think Phish has ever played a show on New Year’s Day.

Man, with this year’s Halloween show in AC, and the NY’s run at MSG, the Phish are certainly paying homage to their northeast roots for this years fall and holiday tours.

Saturday Nights on the South Shore

We certainly don’t thrown down like we used to. When Kelly and I first hooked up, on the weekends, you could have found us anywhere. We went out all the friggin time…We actually went out about 14+ days in a row, when we first got together. Visits to The Corner (BB’s, Oyster Bar, Beale on Broadway), Venice Cafe, The Pageant, Old Rock House, 1860′s, were the norm. Lately, though, since we made this little nugget, the weekends consist of mostly of trying to get shit done or trying not to do anything at all.

Tonite, for dinner, we served ourselves some LeGrand’s deli sammies and more or less just sat around hanging out with Lil Nugz until about 830pm. This guy is just chilling and talking and hooting and noise making, like nobody else…We’re like Lil Nugz, dude what up?

Damn Right!!!

Slow Food/Sappington Farmer’s Market; The Good The Big & The Ugly Tomato Contest

A few, ok, several weeks ago now, I helped organize a tomato contest held at Sappington Farmer’s Market on Watson. It was a great afternoon, filled with music, fun, drinks and obviously delicious tomatoes… There was a tomato drink making contest between 3 local, awesome bartenders, as well as a good/big/ugly/taste/brix tomato contest

The drink contest was won, not surprisingly by the nationally recognized Ted Kilgore of the now almost famous Taste by Niche. His opponents, Nate from Monarch and Matt from Sanctuaria, hung tight but the close vote ended up leaning towards Ted.

Did you roast your tomatoes?

We had 25 entries for the tomato contest. And if my faded memory serves me, there were 25 different varieties of tomatoes entered. We really had no idea what to expect going in. Would we be innundated with hundreds of entries? Would there be any at all? I think it turned out pretty well. Not too much for the judges but enough to give it the feel of a real competition. As for the tomato contest itself, I can only remember 2 of the winners. I know, I know, way to go dude… YellowTreeFarm won for highest brix entry.

And Lola Davis won the overall best tasting tomato for her entry.

It’s All About Lil Nugz These Days..

Good people drink good beer.

Hey, can you fetch me another?

It really is.

We have got a little nugget growing at our house. His name is Zack but we call him Lil Nugz. And what a cute lil nug he is. Zack will be 3 months old on the 4th of September and so far, he’s managed to pack on about 17lbs and stretch his body to about 26 inches long!! Like Dr. Webb infamously told us throughout the pregnancy, “You aren’t having a midget”, “This kid isn’t going to be a midget.” Thank you Dr. Webb. As of today, Zack is officially wearing clothes built for a 6 month old. For real. We have a trash bag full of clothes that maybe got worn once?.?.?.? I imagine this is just the first of many, “if we had only known” moments.

Berkshire Bacon

This weekend I smoked 15lbs of Berkshire Bacon that I recently purchased with a group of 5 other people (3 full shares and 2 half shares). And after handing out one of the half shares, we still had about 15lbs of raw pork belly waiting to be cured. I agreed to supervise the bacon making process. It would be the 6th time I’d attempted making my own bacon. I should say, I really enjoy making bacon. :-)

I’ve certainly made adjustments, mistakes and awesome discoveries along the way.
