The Redwoods, and the Oregon coast…

Wow.

Breathtaking.

Not even close to the biggest one we saw. But as you can see, they are HUGE!

Left McKinleyville, CA on Friday, and wandered into Gold Coast, OR to the San Dollar Inn. Not a bad little motel in southern OR.

Sat on the beach for sunset, before heading off in the morning, up the coast.

Spent the next day, Sunday exploring Cape Blanco (very, very windy here) before finally setting up camp at Sutton Lake campground. Learned a couple things about OR on the way. One, no sales tax here. Two, no self service gas, and three, my Honda is gonna look great with OR plates.

We also took Seamus to lunch with us for the first time at a place called High Tide in Charleston, OR. Sat on the patio overlooking the bay. Needless to say, he loved it.

Today, after packing up camp and heading north, we checked out the Sea Lion Cave. How cool was that? We saw hundreds of sea lions in their natural environment, living, eating and fighting in a sea cave. An elevator takes you down 200 ft to the cave where you can view the sea lions. There is also a lookout where you can view them sunning themselves out on the rocky coast. Pretty darn cool. Also met a couple from South County while here. Weird. Small world, but I’d hate to paint it ;-)

Abbreviating a bit of the rest of the trip up the coast, today we stumbled through the Captain Cook’s Chasm, a really cool piece of coast with multiple spouting horns. Wild. The girl we saw down by the edge, was a bit too close to the water for our comfort.

Tonight, we crashed out in a town called Seaside, OR. Nice place with a huge beach. Of course we sat on the beach for sunset. IMO the best one we’ve seen yet. Plan on heading to the Portland area tomorrow to check out the Columbia River Gorge, before checking into our house in the Hawthorne District.

Man, what a trip its been, and we are only on day 10. Building up to best rip ever for sure.

I’m done for now. Time to relax. Drink a beer, and catch some REM.
