Where in the world are Mac & Fred?
Posted by Mac on August 28th, 2008 filed in Travel, VacationWe made it home in one piece. Survived some brutal storms in Colorado on the last day, and caught some great views of an airshow in downtown Kansas City. Good stuff. Below is the complete path. Well, almost. Google would only let me have so many “destinations”. So be it.
The totals go something like this:
30 days gone
7500+ miles driven.
10 states and one other country (Canada) visited.
7 National Parks visited (Arches, Mesa Verde, Olympic, Hoh Rainforest, Quinault Rainforest, Redwoods, and something else)
Innumerable numbers of National Forests (Olympic, Baker-Snoqualamie, ) State Parks (Larabee, Fort Worden, Birch Bay, Twin Harbors, Cape Disappointment, Deception Pass, Whatcom Falls State Park, etc, etc) and other Wildlife Refuge and Recreation Areas (Dungeness Spit Refuge, Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Devil’s Chasm, etc) visited.
75 + New beers tried by Mac. Overall best being IMO the Deschutes Porter. Now that is a good beer.
Many, many hikes, the highlights being Skyline Divide and Lake Ann in the Baker-Snoqualiamie region. And lets not forget the sweetness that was the Hoh Nature Trail.
Three friends visited (Kirk and Andrea Tonkel-Reno, NV, Goose, Jesse and kids-McKinleyville, CA, and Scott Sindelar-Durango, CO)
Four friends who visited us, Tom B, Ryan C, and Julie and Brendan-Birch Bay, WA
Multiple wildlife sightings: whales, marmots, seals, sea lions, bananna slugs, bull kelp, horse clams, starfish, Roosevelt Elk, deer, and too many others to list.
In the end, I would say this definitely qualifies as the trip of a lifetime. Through all the pitfalls and pinnacles that a month long journey can bring, the integrity of the Space Pod crew never waivered. We pushed on and pushed through, and let me tell you I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
